A Little Country At The Bottom Of The World

A Little Country At The Bottom Of The World

In the South Pasific ocean there's a little place called New Zealand with around 4,858,733 Million people. There’s forests, rivers, and jungles to explore. But, there’s more to NZ than just puppies and kittens.

Native flowers and trees

Pohutakawa

Most flowers bloom in spring because the days get longer leaving more sunlight exposed to the flowers, making them grow quicker than winter where it's dark.

Pohutakawa is a native tree to New Zealand it can also be called a Christmas tree since its yellow or red flowers bloom at Christmas. They grow to around 25 metres, and bloom in the early summer. Cabbage trees have lovely scented flowers which turn into white berries that the birds enjoy. Their long narrow leaves are around a metre long. While they grow up to 10-20 meters high.  As the plant gets old, the stems may die but new shoots grow from any part of the trunk.

Animals That Live In New Zealand

  Kea

Kiwi are pear shaped flightless birds that represent New Zealand in a unique way. They have brown loose feathers that are more like fur, with long legs and a beak that has nostrils at the end of it.

Kea’s are cheeky playful parrots that like stealing. They tend to steal shiny things and food. Kea are very smart, being able to swoop down and throw stones at people. They are in fact the only mountain parrot in the world.

Hector’s Dolphins are the world's smallest dolphin species. They were found with an unusual shape of a mickey mouse ear on their fin.

There are lots more animals that live in New Zealand.

Food and Drinks From New Zeland

  Pavlova

Pavlova is one of the national foods in New Zealand. It has a crisp crust and soft fluffy inside, usually topped with fruit and whipped cream.

New Zealand Pie normally comes with mince, steak, cheese, bacon, egg and potato top. In some places you will find vegan or vegetarian pies.

Fish and Chips is a hot dish with battered fish with some chips on the side. In some places you will find crumbed fish as well.

White Bait is a little fish that doesn't have much flavour. They are usually rolled in flour and fried. Sometimes into fritters.

L&P. Lemonade and paeroa is a sweet soft drink that tastes lemony and sugary, New Zealand created it in 1907.

Now you have learned about the animals, plants, and food  you should try to spot some animals. Smell some plants, and try making and eating new foods.

7km Run

Tuesday, most of our class went to Spencer park to do a 7km run. There was groups of people, a run group, run/walk group and a walk group. I was in the walk/run group. My group was Mya, Minttu, Jessica, Isla, Addison, Ava, Lily. After the run we got sausages and there was a dairy, so we got lollies. It was lots of fun.

Divided by 3

To day for maths I have been learning divided by 3.  The number I picked was 2486.

First you add the digits. 2 from the 2486 e.g  2+4=6+8=14+6=20 divided by 3.    But 20 divided by 3 doesn't work. 2486 can not be divided by 3.
