Rumbustification

Rumbustification Day

Rumbustification day is one of the last days of the year. We get to go to different classes and do activities. We went to Papatuanuku to get our reindeer face paint and then went down to the photo both. There was a pile of dress up cloths on the table. Mya grabbed the broken reindeer antlers.

My favourite activity we did was karaoke. We sang Rudolph the red nose reindeer, and let it go, and more. We decided to head down to the play ground and hang out on the swings. At the end of the day we got lemonade ice blocks from voting for it in the token jar thingy ma bob.

Suffixes and Prefixes

For literacy I have made a Canva poster on Suffixes and Prefixes. We had to write Root words, Suffixes, Prefixes, Prefixes + Root words + Suffixes, and two word clouds.

Maths

3 weeks ago my maths group started Blooket. Today we played a xmas themed blooket. After blooket we had to do a times table test to see if we inproved from last time. Last time I got 97/100 this time I got 95/100. So I did worse :)

Factors

For maths we have been learning about factors and common factors.
A factor is a number that times together to make anuther number. A common factor is the most common factor out of two factors e.g. 4: 4, 1, 2    6: 1, 6, 3, 2 the most common factor is 2

Wainui Camp 2021

Camp

On the 18th of October our class (Tangaroa) went to Wainui YMCA camp. My tent group was Sitia, Mya, Jessica and Minttu. As soon as we got there we instantly got into out first activity. Our first activity was beach explore. We got in our togs and drove in the van to the beach. To get to the beach we had to climb down this hill. On the way down  we saw a table and chairs floating in the water. We set off to get to the table and chairs. Our next activity was fire and shelter building. It started to rain so we didn't get to make the fire, so we moved on to shelter building. We had a competition to build the best shelter. My team won. We then set up our tent. That night it started raining and the tent started leaking. The next morning we had a mission to find Bob. (search and rescue) We got walkie talkies and a map and tried to find Bob.  The next activity was High ropes. We harnessed our selfs and learn't what to do. The next activity was Raft Building. We gathered logs, ropes and barrels. It was to stormy so we didn't get to put it on the water. That night the tent leaked bad. so me and Minttu and Sitia went to Mr Redmond's cabin. We both didn't want to open the door so we procrastinated but suddenly the door opened. Mr Redmond was snoring so LOUD. We moved all our stuff into the hall and slept there the night. The next morning we did Orienteering. We had to look around and find patterns I worked by my self for that activity. The first back with all the clues got a bag of lollies. I got back first. My favourite activity was High ropes.

Literacy

For literacy me and Sitia have been creating a picka path. We started with a planing sheet and then went on to a google slide. Its called ''road trip''. Its about two people going on a road trip in their caravan, but then their caravan gets sabotaged. We had to at least right one of each of these: Onomatopoeia, metaphor, simile, and alteration.

Maths

For maths we have been learning about fractions(Improper fraction, Mixed fraction, and Fraction of a number). A fraction tells us how many parts of a whole we have e.g. 1/2 is a half of a whole. A improper fraction is when the numerator is equal or larger then the denominator. The mixed fraction is a fraction formed by combining a whole number and a fraction.  we also learn't a fraction of a number e.g. 1/2  of 10 =5.

My Planet Report

This week for literacy I have been working on a planet report. I decided to choose Saturn. We had to write a title, Introduction, Subheading 1, Paragraph 1, Subheading 2, Paragraph 2, Fact box, Picture, and glossary. I highlighted the scientific words blue then put them in the glossary that tells you what they mean. Under the title (Saturn) is the introduction explaining what it's about and trying to get you engaged.

Baking A Cake

Yesterday I made a really pretty lemon cake with blue marble sworls in the inside with a layer of rasberrys butter cream in the middle and white vanila icing on the top and the sides to make the flowers pop. I decided to make butter cream icing for the flowers. I watched some tutorials for making butter cream flowers. After we made a plate of  flowers we desided to make some fondant flowers. I made bumble bees, snails, roses, buterflies, dragonflies, marshmellow worms and flowers. We started making the cake the day before we decorated it, to let it cool down. The result was really cool and it tasted really good.

Teacher Drawing

The teachers challenged us to do a drawing of a teacher. I had a creative idea, so I desided to draw Mr eggmond. When I started drawing  Mr Redmond his head began to look like an egg so I drawed a chicken hatching out of Mr eggmonds head.

Lava Lamps

Yesterday I made two lava lamps in a jar. I made a gliter one and a food colouring one.

How to make the food colouring lava lamp: Fill up most of the jar with veggitable oil, leaving some room at the top to put some water in it.  Add little drops of your choice food colouring. I chose blue.

How to make the glitter lava lamp: Add enough vegitable oil to fill up the bottom of your surfuse. Then fill the rest of it up with water. Add what ever glitter you want. I added silver, purple, dark blue, light blue, pink, and gold.

Maths

In Sharons group for maths we have been doing dimic. Me, Minttu, Jessica, and Mya have been working together to finish the question in the dimic book that Sharon has set for us. Most of the time we learn about analogue clocks and digital clocks and about the twenty 4 hour clocks. We have also been changing hours into minutes and seconds into hours.

Science

This two weeks of science I'm with Nogo. We are creating a flow chart about astronauts and researching questions and answering them and looking at videos. One of the questions was How do astronauts train: Astronauts get ready to go to space by practising under water. They go to HOST PADI BOYD which is the  Neutral Buoyancy Lab so they can be ready for the tasks in space. They can’t use there weight to provide a force so they practice in the water.

Here is my flowchart

Science

This year my class is doing science. Each two weeks we do a rotations with the teachers. I'm with Talei for the first two weeks. The science is based on space. Every one in my group has to interview a astronaut of there choice. I'm doing Mae Jemison. We have to ask at least 10 quishtions. My quishtions are:

What did  you eat in space? How long did it take you to get into space? What do you do in the rocket? How long were you in space? Is it hot in space? Who did you go with? What things did you study in university? What training did you do so you could go to space? What year did you go to space? Where did you train? How long did you train for? Why did you want to go to space? What did you do in space?

Tech

This term I am doing Wood Works and Cooking. For Wood Works I am making a key chain and designing a box to put things in. My box is going to have different compartments to hold different stuff like paint, paint brush, pencils, and rubbers. My key chain is shaped like a bunny. Next week I am going to colour in my key chain with vivid.

For cooking my group made pizza towers, and last week we made fruit salad. To start with we put our aprons on and sat down in our groups. My group was Me, Minttu, Greta, and Tara. In my group we watched a hygiene video. while the teacher put all the ingredients across the tables. I put ham, cheese, tomarto base, and onions. Next we are making chicken nuggets.

A Little Country At The Bottom Of The World

A Little Country At The Bottom Of The World

In the South Pasific ocean there's a little place called New Zealand with around 4,858,733 Million people. There’s forests, rivers, and jungles to explore. But, there’s more to NZ than just puppies and kittens.

Native flowers and trees

Pohutakawa

Most flowers bloom in spring because the days get longer leaving more sunlight exposed to the flowers, making them grow quicker than winter where it's dark.

Pohutakawa is a native tree to New Zealand it can also be called a Christmas tree since its yellow or red flowers bloom at Christmas. They grow to around 25 metres, and bloom in the early summer. Cabbage trees have lovely scented flowers which turn into white berries that the birds enjoy. Their long narrow leaves are around a metre long. While they grow up to 10-20 meters high.  As the plant gets old, the stems may die but new shoots grow from any part of the trunk.

Animals That Live In New Zealand

  Kea

Kiwi are pear shaped flightless birds that represent New Zealand in a unique way. They have brown loose feathers that are more like fur, with long legs and a beak that has nostrils at the end of it.

Kea’s are cheeky playful parrots that like stealing. They tend to steal shiny things and food. Kea are very smart, being able to swoop down and throw stones at people. They are in fact the only mountain parrot in the world.

Hector’s Dolphins are the world's smallest dolphin species. They were found with an unusual shape of a mickey mouse ear on their fin.

There are lots more animals that live in New Zealand.

Food and Drinks From New Zeland

  Pavlova

Pavlova is one of the national foods in New Zealand. It has a crisp crust and soft fluffy inside, usually topped with fruit and whipped cream.

New Zealand Pie normally comes with mince, steak, cheese, bacon, egg and potato top. In some places you will find vegan or vegetarian pies.

Fish and Chips is a hot dish with battered fish with some chips on the side. In some places you will find crumbed fish as well.

White Bait is a little fish that doesn't have much flavour. They are usually rolled in flour and fried. Sometimes into fritters.

L&P. Lemonade and paeroa is a sweet soft drink that tastes lemony and sugary, New Zealand created it in 1907.

Now you have learned about the animals, plants, and food  you should try to spot some animals. Smell some plants, and try making and eating new foods.

Divided by 3

To day for maths I have been learning divided by 3.  The number I picked was 2486.

First you add the digits. 2 from the 2486 e.g  2+4=6+8=14+6=20 divided by 3.    But 20 divided by 3 doesn't work. 2486 can not be divided by 3.

Personification and Onomatopoeia

At literacy time we have been learning what Personification and Onomatopoeia is. Onomatopoeia is a word that is spelt like a sound e.g. pow, zoom, crash. Personification  is something that looks different to what it seems but it's not actually what it is e.g. its giving a human an not human action. the lightning danced across the sky.

Whalers and Sealers

Yesterday we started learning about whalers and sealers. We had to answer questions.

Whalers and sealers came to New Zealand Because they were looking to exploit local resources. They came around the 1820’s. They were also the first Europeans to arrive in New Zealand. The sealers came to New Zealand around 1791. They were the second Europeans to arrive.

People did Sealing and whaling to get products. They went whaling to get oil then they threw away the rest of the whale. Nowadays there's some countries that still do it. New Zealand is trying to stop it. They have found more ways to use the whale such as cartilage, and spermaceti . Seals were killed for their fur. To make into hats and jackets that look fashionable.

Whalers noted rope onto harpoons then fired it into the whales. The whale would drag it till it was tired and gave up. They would pull the rope in and get the whales. While killing seals some of the men slipped on rocks and drowned. They would kill the seals as fast as they could in groups then take their skin off and hanged it up to dry.

Whalers and sealers congregated in Antipodes, Auckland, Bounty, Campbell, Chatham, Macquarie and Snares Islands. In 1797 American whalers arrived and in the 1830's the french whalers arrived. There was a shore station in Dusky sounds for sealing.

Trip Into Town

 Trip Into Town

2.29.21 We traveld to town on a bus. We went to the Margaret Mahy park. The teachers told us what we needed to do while I ate my morning tea. When they had told us what we needed to do we headed off to fill out the sheet about all the little detail and patterns about the park. I learnt about the journey and the 4 ships. There were two hole pages to fill in. When everyone was finished filling out their sheet we walked across the bridge and sat on the smooth green grass and ate the school lunches. For the school lunches we had croissants and corn chips. When it was around the time to go to the performance we headed off down the road to this big building called the Town Hall. I had been there before two times for graduating for children university and for a concert. We walked up the red carpeted stairs and along a hallway till we got to the door. We found random seats and sat down. We got there a bit too early so we sat down for around four minutes. Then suddenly the lights turned off. The performance started. There was a hoop being huing by a rope from the ceiling,  a Silk and a rope right in the middle of the stage. It was all dark other than one light which was shining on the stage. It was a red light. The performance was called Tumahana. I learnt that Tangaroa is actually called Takaroa. Tane Mahuta is the god of tree, Tawhirimatea is the god of wind, Haumiatiketike is the god of food, Rongomatane is the god of peace, Takaroa is the god of the ocean, and Papatuanuku  is the god of earth. The trip was lots of fun and I learnt lots of new things.

Graph

Today for maths I made a graph showing how many people have animals. Down the bottom of the graph is the number of pets people have. At the left side of the graph shows the number of people.  The title is to describe what it is about. The axial is what is written on the left and bottom of the graph to show what it means. Dater is the numbers  on the left and bottom side of the graph that shows how many pets and how many people.

My Draft Portrait

 My Draft Portrait

We have been talking about portraits for the last two days. I decided I would do an anime drawing of my self. I like watching anime movies created by Hayao Miyazaki and animated by Studio Ghibli. Today I drew a portrait of myself.  I didn't draw a mouth because I find mouths really hard to draw. My favourite bit is the eyes. Next time I will do my good copy with coloured pencils so I can shade.

Median and Mode

Today we have been learning about Median and Mode for maths.

Median means the middle number e.g.   1,2,3,4,5  The middle number of one two three four five is three.

Mode means the most common number e.g.   2,3,3,4,5,5,5,6    there's more fives than any other number so that's the most common number.

Fitness

Every day in the morning my class does Fitness. We do fitness to get confidence and strength. Today for fitness we did running, teamwork and Tyre war.The first thing we did was you had to get into teams of five then the person in the front of your line runs until they get to the cone then comes back to the back of the team and puts their hands on their head then the next person goes. For the second game It was the same but when you get to the cone you have to do 20 star jumps. The third game was a tyre war. We split the class up into two then Talei came and numbers us. I was 12. Talei calls out a number e.g. 26 then the people who were 26 would run and whoever gets the tyre to their side first they win.

Zumba!

Every morning we do Zumba. Zumba is a fitness program that combines Latin and international music with dance moves. My favourite zumba dance is Cupid Shuffle

.  Cupid Shuffle You move four steps to the right then four steps to the left, then kick and skip at the same time then shuffle to you left then repeat the process. Zumba is really fun. There are so many types of zumba dances. The ones I do are Minion Zumba, I like to move it Zumba, and Cupid Shuffle.

First Day Of School

The first day of school in Tangaroa was different. It was confusing at first. We had to keep our lunch boxes in our bags. In my old class (Tane Mahuta) we put our lunch boxes on the shelf. We went outside and welcomed new students. I was so excited to see my friends.

After coming back from the Mihi whakatau we found out who our kaiawhina was. Mine was Sharon. We sat in our kaiawhina groups and I had no friends. But I met some new friends to sit with. Their names were Tara, and Breanna. Literacy is fun but Maths is not my favourite but it never has been. Art is my favourite, and I love drawing.

We get school lunches at school now and today I got a muffin, apple, potato salad and sandwich (thinly sliced thin beef, lettuce.) I didn’t really like the sandwich. Minttu and I got our hats and went to the library and read a book together. The rest of the day was boring.

Minttu and I went home together.

Surfing!

Wednesday February 17 was surfing day. It was a calm day the waves were foamy and blue green. All I could see was powerful waves rushing through and crashing in other waves. I could taste salt in the air as the water sparkled. Me Jessica and Minttu went into the changing room and changed into our wetsuits. I brung my own wetsuit. They borrowed the school wetsuits. We went down to the beach with our surf boards and placed them on the ground. Mr.Redmond showed us what to do. We walked through the warm sand and went to waste deep. I tried to find a big wave. On the first go I went on my knees on the board. My fourth turn I stood up. The whistle rang two times which means time to get out. I caught my last wave back. We carried the surf boards to the trailer and got changed.

surfers are usually cool, so be cool and spread coolness, that's cool, it sounds cool, and it looks pretty cool.
